wpa posters

The Work Projects Administration Posters were created between 1936 to 1943 by varying branches of the WPA.

The posters were designed for publicizing exhibit’s, community activities, theatrical productions, health and safety concerns of educational programs. These posters were designed with specific purposes. This resulted in creating one of the first US Government Programs to support artists.

This design is a play on that, showcasing a classic WPA style promoting to ride your bikes. This if followed by two other designs, one is a modernist design following a narrow grid, while the other is a postmodern grid mad from the shape of a bike tire in motion.

making and breaking the grid

Making the grid was the next step for this process. I based my structure off of bike lanes on the road, whereas the postmodern designs followed the structure of a moving bicycle tire.

The goal for both was to create a sense of movement throughout the piece.
